Lone Star College to host International Education Biennial

Lone Star College Honors College and International Education will host an International Education Biennial Conference entitled “Around the World in Seven Days: Breaking Barriers and Building Connections.” The conference will feature presentations, workshops and roundtables from thought leaders in international education worldwide.

“This year’s event will explore internationalizing the curriculum, collaboration and partnerships with institutions abroad, experience and expertise in virtual exchange, and cultural diversity in the classroom,” said Katharine Caruso, Ph.D., LSC Associate Vice Chancellor Honors and International Education. “We look forward to providing an idea exchange platform for innovations in international education.”

The conference takes place Friday, Nov. 11, at LSC-System Office, The Woodlands, and will feature Dr. Joseph Shaules as the keynote speaker. Shaules is a Professor at Keio University in Tokyo. Shaules also serves as director of the Japan Intercultural Institute—and is renowned world-wide for his lively talks on the psychology behind cultural understanding. Shaules has worked in intercultural education in Japan, Mexico and Europe for more than 25 years and has published several books.

“The International Education Biennial Conference is a must for anyone who believes in the power of higher education to create global connections,” said Caruso. “This includes faculty, students, staff, administrators and community members.”

Other speakers scheduled to appear are Claudia Koelker, author of “The Immigrant Advantage,” and Stephen C. Head, Ph.D., LSC Chancellor.

The conference will also include a special discussion hosted by LSC History and Government faculty in honor of Veterans Day.
